Something shifted and you can't quite name it. Maybe it's the work, or the marriage, or the person looking back at you in the mirror. Maybe you're a parent watching a teenager go quiet and pull away. Either way, you're handling it, and handling it has stopped working.

I'm Sean Sutherland, a Licensed Professional Counselor Candidate at Reflective Wellness in Aurora and Parker. I work with men, with teens 13 and up, and with the people trying to reach them.

Who I am

Before I became a counselor, I spent more than twenty years leading engineering teams at large technology companies.

My approach is collaborative and grounded in practical, evidence-informed methods: Solution-Focused Brief Therapy, Rational Emotive Behavior Therapy, Positive Psychology, Narrative Therapy, and Neurofeedback. In plain terms, we'll notice what's already working, gently challenge the patterns that keep you stuck, and build tools you can use right away.

When the work stops feeling solid

I spent more than twenty years leading engineering teams before I became a counselor. I know what it feels like when the industry you built a life in starts rewriting itself, and I know what AI can and can't actually do, because I worked with it directly.

That matters in two ways. If your career anxiety is specific and technical, you won't have to explain the context to me. And if you or your teenager has a relationship with screens, games, or AI chatbots that's started to feel like it's running you rather than the other way around, that's something I can help with rather than something I'll be alarmed by.
